Treatment for Ingrown Toenails
A board-certified podiatrist from Andvanced Foot and Ankle Specialists is experienced in treatment for ingrown toenails and - most importantly - know when it is something more complicated. Our physicians have treated thousands of patients and successfully performed complicated and reconstructive surgeries. An evaluation by one of our doctors can help you determine the best course of action. We work closely with you, listening to your symptoms, to help determine the best course of treatment.
We have a permanent solution to chronic ingrown toenails. This is a quick in-office procedure and we use local anesthetic to make it pain-free.
Ingrown toenailsis usually caused by trimming toenails too short, particularly on the sides of the big toes. They may also be caused by shoe pressure (from shoes that are too tight or short), injury, fungus infection, heredity, or poor foot structure. Ingrown toenails occur when the corners or sides of the toenail dig into the skin, often causing infection.
Many people will try and repair their ingrown toenail themselves. Unfortunately, this can result in a chronic infection. When your toes are hurting, and you need to know what to do for an ingrown toenail, it is important to get an evaluation.
Ingrown toenails can be prevented by:
- Trimming toenails straight across with no rounded corners.
- Ensuring that shoes and socks are not too tight.
- Keeping feet clean at all times.
