In order to get your feet ready for the summer, you should try out some new exercises. Your feet are critically important to your balance so it is important that you do exercises in order to strengthen them. A simple exercise you can do is toe yoga--a stretch that is performed by moving each one of your toes independently. Another exercise is to work on your feet by picking up marbles with your toes or scrunching a towel toward you. You can also try stretching the foot by standing with the middle of your foot on a step while dropping your heel down. This stretch will help your foot as well as your calf muscles. Stretching Your Feet

From increasing flexibility to even providing some pain relief, be sure to give your feet a stretch from time to time. This is especially important for athletes or anyone performing aerobic exercises, but anyone experiencing foot pain or is on their feet constantly should also engage in this practice.

Good ways to stretch your feet are:

  • Crossing one leg over the others and carefully pull your toes back. Do 10-20 repetitions and repeat the process for each foot
  • Face a wall with your arms out and hands flat against the wall. Step back with one foot and keep it flat on the floor while moving the other leg forward. Lean towards the wall until you feel a stretch. Hold for 30 seconds and perform 10 repetitions for each foot
  • Be sure not to overextend or push your limbs too hard or you could risk pulling or straining your muscle

Individuals who tend to their feet by regular stretching every day should be able to minimize foot pain and prevent new problems from arising.

Foot pain is something that may plague any active adult, often manifesting in the form of plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendonitis. Achy feet caused by inflammation can be eased, however, with the help of certain exercises. For starters, an easy foot roll with a foot roller from the ball of the foot to the heel can be performed while standing or sitting. This exercise can be repeated between feet and performed multiple times per day. Another exercise is the calf stretch, which can be done by propping the ball of the foot against the wall with the heel grounded. Slowly lean against the wall and hold to feel a slight stretch. Calf raises are another simple exercise. Both of these calf exercises can be performed multiple times per day.
